Celebration of Creative Living
The event will feature readings from participants in the “Dangerous Attractions – Fatal Choices” Women’s Empowerment Writing Group, and dance demonstrations of Casino Salsa and Rueda. Artwork created by participants in various FDACC visual arts programs will be on exhibit during the celebration, including collage art by Kenneth Leslie. The “Dangerous Attractions – Fatal Choices” Women’s Empowerment Writing Group involved an exploration of social issues affecting women, with educational components and discussions about making sound choices. Participants in this project wrote essays, poems, and monologues dealing challenges and triumphs of living as women in today’s society. This project was funded through an Arts Activism Grant through the Kentucky Foundation for Women, Northern Kentucky Health Deparment, and the Fine Arts Fund.

Dance performances will feature the members of the FDACC Rueda Team. This historic Cuban dance form involves couples performing a series of moves in synchronization, with a “caller” specifying which move is to be performed next. This dance form was popularized in Cuba in the 50’s and 60’s, and is developing a following throughout the United States. The FDACC Rueda Team will also demonstrate Casino Salsa, where individual partners dance. The FDACC Rueda Team is a multi-cultural group, with dancers representing Mexico, Puerto Rico, Columbia, and the United States.

Doors open at 6:00 pm, and the readings will begin at 6:30 pm. Dance demonstrations begin at 7:00 pm, with free dance lessons and social dancing from 7:30 – 8:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public.
