The mission of the Fine Arts Fund is to strengthen the arts for a greater Cincinnati through united fundraising, support services, and the responsible investment and allocation of resources.
Over the years, Cincinnati has distinguished itself as a community that supports the arts, and it remains one of the few cities in the U.S. that is home to major arts organizations representing a full range of artistic expression.
Arts funding has been advanced by the Fine Arts Fund, which was founded as The Cincinnati Institute of Fine Arts in 1927 by Charles P. and Anna Sinton Taft, whose fortune and foresight left a legacy of support for the arts for future generations to enjoy. The Tafts endowed a major gift, with the provision that it be matched by the people of Cincinnati. In addition, they donated their artwork and home, now the Taft Museum of Art.
The Fine Arts Fund is the oldest united arts fund in the U.S. The annual public campaign began in 1949.
The Fine Arts Fund also:
-
Provides a means to raise money for the arts in the workplace, therefore creating a larger, more reliable source of funds for the arts.
-
Fosters arts excellence through support of regular programming and increased efforts in Education and Community Outreach efforts.
-
Narrows the gap between ticket prices/admission fees and the actual costs of producing programs.
-
Ensures vital cultural opportunities for the residents of Greater Cincinnati.
